Independence day celebrations which felt very special
Raghu and Vatsala were part of the 79th. Independence day celebrations which they said felt very special. It was at an International School near Maddur.
Dr. D Raghunath M.R.C.Path.....as the retired Lt. General of the AMC and Vatsala Raghunath who retired as the principal of a school in Bengaluru are used to being chief guests of schools and elsewhere on such occasions.
When I called them a day earlier, they mentioned that they were participating this year at an International School and I said nice. We do try to meet on such days but as we were busy this year, did not meet.
I called them the next day just to say hello! Asked them how the flag hoisting function went? Raghu said, it was very good.
They were picked up six in the morning and went all the way to a school near Maddur. An area surrounded by sugarcane farms.
The program was conducted in English. Children from Nursery classes and right up to High school participated and did well. It lasted for almost two and a half hours.
It feels good that students from Mandya and around are able to study in a school so closeby. Earlier it would have been in either Mysore or even Bangalore.
Vatsala and Raghu both are Kannadigas who chose Bangalore as the place to settle after Raghu's retirement, which took him to many places in India.
Raghu adds: "Thanks Nidhi for a factual description of the events of 15th Aug. I thought the event was a springboard to highlight the progress of rural education in the non-governmental field which is powered by philanthropists and committed individuals. This institution is a typical example. It has good buildings, modern classrooms and teaches the CBSE syllabus. It caters to a fairly large rural area with the students being ferried by 18 buses."
Vatsala singing on the occasion.
